Wydany w 1989 roku debiutancki album grupy zatytułowany po prostu „The Stone Roses”, łączący alternatywny rock z psychodelią i muzyką taneczną zrewolucjonizował muzyczną scenę na Wyspach.
Przyozdobiona na okładce plasterkami cytryny płyta stała się jedną z ikon nie tylko brytyjskiej, ale też światowej popkultury.
